The client remains fully clothed. Sessions can be done on a chair or on a massage table. Some sessions include the back area as well. But, for most sessions, you will lie face up on a massage table. A Reiki practitioner will lightly touch or “hover over” 12 to 20 different locations on your body, including your head, shoulders, arms, stomach, legs and feet. The practitioner will “hover” over the neck, chest and pelvic areas. During a session, you may feel warmth or tingling in the area being treated, but mostly you will feel a sense of deep relaxation.
Reiki has no known side effects and is used as Integrative and Complementary Care in conjunction with traditional medicine. Studies indicate a decrease of stress and anxiety, decrease of pain, heightened sense of peacefulness and renewal, to name only a few. Reiki assists you to accomplish healing of yourself by helping you become energetically balanced physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually.
Most people can appreciate that there is more to regaining your health than medical technology can address. Patients experience a great deal of anxiety when they get sick, and modern medicine may not even address serious stressful events that may have been going on before a patient fell ill. Many research studies have shown that stress and anxiety can interfere with the body’s ability to heal.
Many clinical studies have been examined and given credibility; research regarding Reiki’s effects on health is in its early stages. The studies, so far, have shown that Reiki CAN decrease fatigue and improve quality of life for cancer patients. Reiki has also been shown to bring about both physical and psychological relaxation in healthy adults experiencing stress. The studies have concluded that Reiki can promote a sense of well-being, decrease stress and anxiety, assist with depression and decrease pain. This is why over 800 hospitals are using Reiki within their patient/resident/client care.
